Today, beer garden table sets are known the world over. Most people know they originated in Bavaria, but few realise that we at RUKU1952® actually invented these furniture sets.

A Local Wine Festival as a Springboard

In the early 1950s the entrepreneur Rudolf Kurz, head and namesake of the Illertissen-based company RUKU (later RUKUevent GmbH, now Zingerle Group Deutschland GmbH), devised an invention that really did “click” first time. His newly developed folding furniture lock allowed a table top and its legs to be joined so securely that the table could be folded up and down while remaining perfectly stable. Thus the beer garden table set was born—and patented soon afterwards.

The new event furniture impressed not only its inventor at its very first outing at the Illertissen Wine Festival; it quickly became a brilliant business idea and a runaway success. To this day, customers all over the world rely on original RUKU1952® beer-garden table sets.

Beer Garden Table Sets Through the Ages

Over the decades, much has changed. The underframes have been adapted with the times; they are now lighter yet stronger than those on the very first set. Today, flat steel is used as the underframe material, guaranteeing long-lasting functionality. The colour palette has evolved as well: alongside the traditional green underframe, a sophisticated black has become hugely popular.
